12/12/2023 0 Comments We are who we areI guess it isn't too far fetched that he maybe also watched Twin Peaks. I don't know, I haven't found a quote of Guadagnino saying he ever watched Twin Peaks, but he lists Blue Velvet and Eraserhead as films that influenced him throughout his life. In WRWWR subtle critiques are made to a new form of American imperialism in the 2010s and its military, etc. More general: just the theme of America and its violence, in Twin Peaks it's the entire breaking down of the idyllic Americana, and how the murder of Laura Palmer reveals a more sinister world underneath.Even the James-breaking-his-pen-in-half moment is in there! And the colours too! That scene is one huuuuge homage to the Laura Death scene in the TP-pilot. The scene in the High School, when the principal announces the death/murder of Craig. We later find out that the friend is made up by him, but it nevertheless strikes similarities to Cooper talking to Diane on his recorder. The main character, Fraser, always talks with his friend "Mark" on the phone. I am watching the last episode of the HBO show We Are Who We Are (very beautiful show, highly recommend it!), and I've noticed some Twin Peaks references/inspirations.
